Keep your scans safe. If a scan is interrupted, keep the app’s data and reopen Page Tidy. Do not uninstall the app, clear its storage or discard a draft you still need.
Recover a local scan
- Free space on your device. Scans need room for original pages, previews and PDFs. Remove unrelated files first; keep Page Tidy’s storage intact.
- Reopen Page Tidy and allow recovery to finish. The app keeps original captures and edit recipes so interrupted previews or PDFs can be rebuilt. If it asks for more storage, free space and reopen it again.
- Check your Library and drafts. Open the affected scan and review its pages before resuming unfinished work or retrying PDF creation. Recovery cannot recreate originals that have been permanently deleted.
- Check Trash for a deleted saved scan. Restore it within its 30-day local retention window. Permanently deleted scans and discarded drafts need a separate earlier backup or export.
If the problem continues, keep the current scan and try a small one-page scan with a non-sensitive test page. Note whether capture, review, PDF preview, Share, Save a copy or reopening fails.
Camera, photos and PDF exports
Check Page Tidy’s camera or selected-photo access in your device settings. Camera permission is used to capture pages you choose; photo access is used to import selected images.
Share sends a PDF to the app or recipient you choose. Save a copy opens the system file picker. Check the selected destination for the exported file; a destination may use its own network or cloud service. A PDF export is a separate readable copy, not a backup of your editable originals and recipes.
Backups and recovery codes
Save an editable library backup
Open Library → Backups → Save a backup. Save and confirm the recovery code outside Page Tidy, then choose where to save the encrypted archive. It includes original pages, edits, metadata, folders, saved PDFs, Trash and committed drafts. The file provider you choose may transfer it using its own settings.
Keep the recovery code separately from the archive, for example in a password manager or on paper. Page Tidy support cannot recover a lost code. Creating a new recovery code opens only new backups; keep previous codes for older archives.
Restore a backup
In Backups → Restore a backup, select the archive and enter its matching recovery code. Check the import preview and the optional scan-defaults choice before confirming. Restore adds recovered items without replacing your Library; changed duplicates become recovered copies. Unfinished work returns as drafts for you to resume. If import is finishing, keep the app open; after an interruption, reopen it to finish recovery.
Optional automatic backup
Automatic backup is optional and needs an available, configured provider plus your explicit consent. An unavailable provider does not mean your local scans are lost: keep using the Library or save a portable backup. Do not assume scans are protected off-device just because you signed in or an upload started.
Automatic work runs while Page Tidy is open and can resume on reopening; newer changes may still be waiting after a previous successful backup. Google Drive requests wait for an unmetered connection unless you opt into cellular. On iOS, iCloud transfers already handed to the system follow its cellular settings and may continue after app-level disable.
Copies that remain after deletion
Deleting local pages, purging Trash, disabling backup, disconnecting an account or uninstalling does not erase earlier archives or shared/saved exports. In Backups → Manage remote storage, follow the provider controls. Disable backup on every device and preserve needed archives and codes before removing remote copies; other enabled devices can create more backups.
Ask for help without sharing private documents
Email [email protected] with:
- Your Page Tidy version, device model and operating-system version.
- The page count, the exact step that failed and any non-sensitive error message.
- Whether reopening, freeing storage or trying a single test page changed the result.
Do not include document images or text, document titles, filenames, file paths, recovery codes, credentials or device identifiers. If a screenshot is useful, reproduce the issue with a synthetic test page first.
